The COVID-19 pandemic is a global crisis that has affected billions of people around the world so far and impacted all aspects of life and society. In the area of education, for instance, Government of Pakistan implemented country-wide school and University closures in March 2020. Millions of students and youth across Country went out of School or University, while thousands of teachers are no longer in the class rooms.
The increase in unemployment as a result of COVID-19 is expected to exceed, it is likely that youth will be disproportionately affected by a recession, with a higher percentage of young people being unemployed compared to adults, and a slower uptake of employment by young people during the recovery.
This unprecedented situation, with so many youths out of school and unemployment at the same time, could have an adverse impact on students’ education and mental health.
To keep the youth engaged and motivated and to help them utilize the time with skills and qualifications that could open the doors of opportunities for them during and after the pandemics, SZABIST ZABTech in partnership with SZABIST Foundation has initiated E SKILLS Programme for youth of Sindh.
The programme aims to help disengaged young people in times of pandemics by providing them with entrepreneurial education & trainings and support for them to acquire the skills needed either to find a job or become entrepreneurs. Courses are supported by formative and summative assessments, and e-certification is awarded to the participants upon successful completion of the courses.
